When I watched him at Liv he was stretching on the tee box and standing straight legged he bent down and put his chest on his knees 😮
Yes, hopefully he maintains that mobility. I feel like his move is going to be a little bit harder to do as he gets older, but if he stays in good shape, I think he’ll be fine.
Craig. My issue is flipping . I think it is from overusing the right hand. How do balance the throw but still get good stability and extension thru the ball in follow thru. Thanks
What is the golf ball doing? What does your contact with the ball look like?
How do you define flipping?
@@CraigHocknullGolf Inconsistent ball striking from 6 iron down.
@CraigHocknullGolf Left wrist arm starts collapsing about 3 to 4 inches post impact.
Do you mean rolling over?
Swing Science shafts perform as well as the UST Recoil. I have both. The Swing Science are a lot less expensive. There is no difference in performance between the two brands. Just the money you'll spend.
I’ve also tried both and at my level I’m way more impressed with the recoil.
Kudos for using a head-mounted microphone. Audio clarity is sadly lacking in many other golf RUclipsrs. I don't care whether it looks cool or not - as long as I don't have to strain to hear what a person is saying ....
Thank you!
Great information in this video. The right hand grip placement really helped me.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it.

1,190 views? Should be 20 billion. Others have referred to the axe drill and vaguely mentioned that the golf swing is like swinging an axe on a different plane but never have I seen a demonstration and explanation that makes this move comprehensible. This is superlative stuff.
Thank you! I’m glad I could help and that you are enjoying my channel! Cheers!
Nice swing
Thank you!
Craig, ty you for helping me remember how to release. A few years ago i was a 3 handicap that could score mid 70s even seeing the course for the first time, golf was good to me it opened a lot of doors. One day there was a knock on my door, i opened and it was cancer well fortunately i persevered. I came back to golf weak and couldn't remember how i played. I have learned much from your channel, before i hit it 260-270 but down the middle thanks to you ive gained my irons and short game. I want to hit longer than before if possible i use bands to strengthen my arms and i work daily with the swish both arms. I am older now but your fellow countryman joe kirkland sr. Shot a 62 ar age 63 he was a fantastic golfer and artist as you know. Ill continue to watch your videos you have a very sound message that instructors are missing. Is there anything i can do to add consistent speed other than the proper release and swish drills. I was a meat cutter with very strong hands and arms and i can get back that strength. Ty for all you do and continue great playing. Greg. Anyone reading this, craig is teaching the perfect golf swing.
Well that’s quite the story and I’m so glad you are on the mend and back to swinging the club well. Thanks for your kind words! I’m happy that you are happy 😃 Cheers!
As far as the strength and speed, just keep using those hands and forearms and work on good flexing in your turn.
@@CraigHocknullGolfyes, I was a bit long winded. Your video came into my feed and seeing your release clicked. I'll recommend your channel because you're teaching the swing. On with my journey. Ty
@ag358 I love it! Thank you for sharing your story and for sharing my channel! Let me know how the journey goes!
There was a golfer named Henry Cotton a long time ago back in the 40's that had his students hit old tires over and over again to develop their hand strength and impact awareness. He would have them hit the tire many times trying to move it in one direction forward. I made a homemade impact bag with 2 old basketball shoes and put them in a carry bag and started to whack away at it. My thoughts that came to me is that I was trying to hit the bag, I wasn't swinging in a circle and the bag just got in the way. And in trying to hit the bag towards the target I wasn't thinking about club path or club face angle or angle of attack or even swing speed. The only thing that hits the bag or ball is the club head so even though I know the club head travels in a circular path I wasn't thinking circles I was just thinking deliver the force into the bag to hit it forward straight. So with that intention your body and your hands will figure out a away so when you wack that bag the force will be a straight line force towards the target. So when you hit a golf ball your body, arms and hands will figure out the timing if your intention is to deliver a force with the clubhead to the ball that will propel it straight forward. The club head and everything else is not traveling in a straight line at any time but the force at impact is in a straight line not a curve. So you just have to have the intention of imparting a straight line force with the club head to the round ball and just trust your body to do it.😁😁😁😁😁😁
Yes, as a kid of seven years old spent many hours whacking a car tire along the grass of my backyard and Darwin Australia.
I think I watched every video on this app to try and fix my low left miss and this was the most immediate fix I’ve ever come across. THANK YOU FOR SAVING ME.
You got it! Check out my videos on how to release the club correctly so you can improve on this fix!
Play golf with whichever hand you are naturally comfortable with. There are many right-handed dominant people who play hockey shooting left and/or bat left in baseball because they prefer their dominant right hand to be steering the top of the hockey stick or baseball/cricket bat. There are also many left-handed dominant people who are precisely the same in reverse in both hockey, baseball/cricket and golf, and shoot right-handed in those sports. There are also naturally left-handed dominant people like Bubba Watson who shoot left in golf, and everything else. I've also played golf with people who actually shoot left in hockey, but then turn around and play golf right-handed. Again, play golf with whichever hand you are naturally comfortable with! There is no gospel rule dictating which way one should shoot in golf. *As this video clip illustrates, executing the correct swing mechanics while using correctly fitted clubs are by far the most important dynamics to be concerned with, whether one shoots left or right in golf.*
Thanks for the compliment and nice points you bring up. Most people that I coach who play golf from the side of their non-dominant hand do so because they started doing that as a kid. Mickelson mimicked his dad from the mirror opposite side and became a lefty but then throws a ball righty. In the other sports you mentioned like hockey and hurling the stronger arm lifts and carries the stick and steers the puck. In baseball and cricket and golf most play from the same side as their dominant hand. I believe that if you are picking up the sport of golf for the first time and wondering which side to play from, I would encourage you to use the same side as you would throw a ball. In my opinion most golfers who play the best starting as adults do so using their throwing arm as their dominant arm in golf and play from that same side.
@@CraigHocknullGolf And I would be totally agnostic to this, and suggest to anyone that they play golf with whichever hand they are most comfortable with. Although I am right-handed dominant, I could never imagine playing golf right-handed with any degree of skill, dexterity, or consistency. Lefty hockey player, lefty golfer, lefty batter. Always and forever, for me.
@tonyk501 you are welcome to be agnostic on this I on the other hand have seen tremendous benefits of guiding my students into the direction that I see most bio mechanically sound. Now that being said, most adults have learned to “play the game” from one side and even though the bio mechanical evidence supports switching for “better ball hitting” the return on this investment is usually not worth it. I caddied for Mac O’Grady who is probably the best golfer in the world from both sides. I can play left handed and right handed and almost switched in 2014 due to a hand injury. However my golf experience and IQ for “playing the game” would never be matched so I just waited until I healed better. I’m glad I did because now I’m playing better and hitting the ball further than I ever have. I’ll keep teaching my beginners to play from the same side as they would throw a ball until I find evidence to the counter. Thanks again for your comments!
@@CraigHocknullGolf I do not consider anyone who has previously grown up playing hockey a true "beginner" in golf, as the genetic imprint and influence of being a left-handed shooting hockey player may override everything else. Baseball would be more similar to a golf swing, however, so odds are good that a right-handed batter in baseball will also feel more comfortable playing golf right-handed. The best advice as a child Mike Weir ever got was a return letter from Jack Nicklaus advising him to stick with playing golf as a lefty if that felt more comfortable for him. Do you think he would have won the 2003 Masters in Augusta if he decided to play golf right-handed instead? He probably never would have made the professional ranks. Same goes for Phil Mickelson, who is one of the greatest hall-of-famers we will ever see. Brian Harman and Robert MacIntyre are also a right-handed dominant players who both play golf left-handed. Insisting that all the guys mentioned above should have instead played golf right-handed is *utterly and patently absurd* .
@tonyk501 For every example that you have mentioned there are contradictory examples. I can tell from your last sentence that you are passionate about this. I take my role as a coach very seriously and have been playing and coaching at a very high level for a very long time. I can sleep soundly at night knowing that my advice comes from a very well educated and informed place. Sighting and example of Weir to explain a point is unfair to Mike Weirs mental strength, athleticism etc etc. We will never know if he could have made it on tour or in fact won even more tournaments because his choice of swing direction is just one part of it. Again I agree that if someone is athletically inclined such as hockey to play from a given side then I would also encourage them to do so. There are however people who are beginners who have played very little to no stick and ball sports who have thrown a ball or skipped a stone and those are the people whom I’m referring to. Hopefully you can read my comment entire comment before judging me as “absurd”.
Another very interesting vid.Big thanks for this one..
You are welcome! What was your biggest takeaway from the video?
Another very interesting vid.Well done !
Thanks! What did you find most interesting?
Really great vid. Well Done !! This is the Modern Approach to golf, which makes a lot of sense, and i think it will reduce my handicap as i have been missing greens to slight left and right for months...Huge thanks for this one. !
You are welcome! Hopefully you have subscribed and shared my channel! Cheers!
So, do you advocate for 1 length irons?
No the physics doesn’t quite match up unless you’re going to get a set from DeChambeau. I recommend that the golfer avoid making compensations and manipulations due to their clubs poor fitting.
Are you still teaching in Park City? I live in SLC and would love to take in person lessons from you.

Yes it’s challenging to describe. If you copy the flat footed swings you will get the feeling!

Yes, absolutely!
Being an insomniac, I watch a lot of golf videos. A lot. And I have an embarrassing number of subscriptions to sites. I have to admit that the definition of the two primary release types is the best I’ve ever heard. Thanks so much.
Thank you! Maybe now that you know the secret you can sleep easier!
I want to subscribe to this channel but the subscription has tons of”shorts”. Which makes the channel a waste of time.
LOL you’ll have to sort through my over 1000 videos before you decide!
I also have playlist etc. Enjoy!
I have a series of 10 videos explaining each position and how I use the Saber Golf Swing Trainer to help me both train and coach these positions. And yes I throw the club hard from the top. And no I’m not rolling or flipping my hands over. I have very little to zero face rotation around the axis of the shaft, which equals constant, straight and powerful golf shots! Cheers! And thanks for watching and sharing!
So is the feel almost like the right arm straightening behind you and down? I really need to do a video lesson with you just not sure how much we could accomplish only looking at a couple swings. You’d know much better than me.
If you are referring to my online lesson program it’s a lot more than just a couple of swings. Never the less I do this all day every day so rest assured that a couple of swing videos is sufficient, however I’ll probably be asking a lot more of you than you may be ready for!
This seems to be quite at odds with your advice in lessons to throw the clubhead backwards and scoop on the plane…..Could you clarify pls. Rich from Canberra 😊
This series is designed to coach someone correctly through the swing using the Saber. Much of my throw back to scoop coaching is to correct for people who have been taught to lag the club, rotate their hips and roll their hands through the release. The ten positions of the golf swing series was done before I developed the throw to scoop terminology, however in this ten position series I still discuss a neutral release where the barrel of the Saber snaps through impact without rolling over. If I do the sequence again I’ll use some of the newer terms and feels, but the process of the ten positions is still sound and fundamentally correct. Hope that helps. If you go back even further you’ll see my Golf Spin videos which don’t speak of throw and scoop. As a player first and coach second I have refined and improved my methods and scoring average consistently over the last 30 years to the point that I’m playing better now than ever. If you’re not learning and growing your going backwards. Hope this helps you play your best golf!
Got it!! Many thanks for your thoughtful and detailed clarification. All the best to you!
Wheres's his left hand?
Attached to my left arm!
Should there be some rear shoulder drop in the hammer down or will that cause topping the ball? Thx Craig.
No concern for topping the ball. Yes there should be some crunch and hammer throughout the down swing. Most should just start hands with arms before they begin to use additional power sources.
@@CraigHocknullGolf awesome, thank you. Your content continues to be great.
@travisjaggers2114 Thank you!
Congratulations .
Thank you!
Bobby jones was one of the greatest ball strikers in history, i now understand better some things he did and didn't write about probably because he started at age six. He did the rib crunch, the throw and he let his left heel pad come off the handle sometim e to get a little more snap. He always said you can describe the golf swing a million ways and the next explanation someone will get it. I think you explain very well, i played very good golf that resulted in surgeries, I'm now coming back and your teaching is just what i needed.
Awesome! Thanks for subscribing and engaging on this channel!
@@CraigHocknullGolfyou may have said it on your channel but I start the throw into the curve and the driver you definitely have to throw sooner than irons. Chipping and pitching is much easier too. A question I have is do you want the lead hand softer than the trail hand or equal?
I have these shafts in my Srixon ZX5 mark 2 irons and would not change them for another shaft
They are great! I’ll be testing the Dart soon as they discontinue this shaft.
Good news: it kinda makes sense. Bad news: the meme possibilities here are endless.

Craig, great observations, analysis/diagnosis, prescription!!
Thank you!
@@CraigHocknullGolf Hi Craig, quite evidently you think deeply and drill down into the nitty gritty details. Without wanting to put words into your mouth it seems to me that your concept is in harmony with Ernest Jones 'Swing the Clubhead' and Henry Cotton's hands are the Key factor i.e. swing the clubhead and the body follows....
@willbrooks3490 I have found that if the hands and forearms know how to move the club back an through correctly they will teach the arms and shoulders how to move. When the arms and shoulders know how to move correctly you are well on your way. The tricky part is getting the core, hips and legs to now move correctly without messing up the good work that’s already been done. I will research those books or methods you mentioned. Thank you!
This is money!!
Great stuff!
when your contacting the impact bag, the straightening appears to happen later compared to the last example when you say it has to happen "right here" where you strsighten back towards the camera. Is that to over exaggerate the feeling?
Don’t over think all of this. I’m using a shaft without a head when hitting the impact bag with one hand. The timing of the throw is definitely unique like a signature but I’d hazard to guess that most release way too late in an attempt to “lag”
@@CraigHocknullGolf That makes sense, thank you.

Hi Craig. Great content as usual :) So as a rule of thumb, can you say that the wedge gets thrown at the seam of your trousers - and the longer the club, the more you throw behind the seam? Thanks, Peter
Yes, I think you can think of it that way. If you throwing it with a wedge, it will be later in the downswing and longer clubs will be much earlier and deeper behind you. I did a video on this with my Saber at Twin Dolphin in Cabo San Lucas. It would’ve been posted in January or February 2022.
